The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
This film has one of the most expensive wardrobes to date. Despite the $100,000 budget for costumes, they all totalled up to over an astounding $1,000,000. This was due to over a hundred designers and fashion houses donating items towards the film. This meant hello $12,000 handbags and $40,000 fur coats. Prada was probably the most present fashion house on display, with Streep wearing Prada suits and an endless amount of their designer shoes. Film Stylist Patricia Field stated that “out of every 10 pairs, four were Prada.”
This film for me is all about the accessories. Statement coats, necklaces, bags and those Chanel leather boots… Oh my. My favourite scenes are probably the post make-over wardrobe montages. In these Hathaway’s character parades around New York in an endless supply of amazing designer outfit. A couple stand out to me though, I thought the green double breasted coat with the leopard fur trim was so retro. Also, the whole outfit she wore to the James Holt party - those suede boots, classic black dress, statement Chanel necklace and amazzzing bag. I fell in love with it straight away. Pure example of the fantastic accessories on show.
